Double Coupons at K-Mart & Coupon Policies

Today, I thought I would do something totally different and post up some coupon policies from different stores: Using coupons is not a way to CHEAT the SYSTEM, it is a way to help you off set your weekly budget! Be very careful to read your coupons to see if it will double, triple or super double before shopping.............INTEGRITY IS IMPORTANT!

K-Mart
There are a few rules: (I called my local K-Mart to verify)
1.You need a “Shop You Way Rewards Card” (can get in store)
2.Coupons $2 or less will be doubled.
3. Limit of 5 coupons doubled per customer per day.

Target Coupon Policy (for more info go to Target.com to read)

Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target. When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:• We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued coupons and manufacturer-issued. • We'll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.• Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.• We can't give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item. • We can't accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores. • All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you're checking out.

Internet Coupons
We gladly accept legitimate internet coupons. However, there has been a growing number of fraudulent internet coupons in the marketplace. Coupons have unique serial numbers printed on them and follow industry-standard format. Any presented coupon that does not follow standard format will not be accepted.
Internet coupon limits are the same as manufacturer and store coupons.
If you have any questions on the standard format of internet coupons, you can verify at www.printcoupons.com
Store Coupons
In order to redeem store coupons, a Lowes Foods rewards card must be used.
Store coupons must be in date.
All limits and purchase requirements must be followed.

Coupon Boot Camp: Lesson 4 The Art Of Couponing

So far I have walked you through some basic steps......Please understand that you will have to create a system that works for you.  What might work for me, may not work for you....Come On Let's Go!

Each Store has a maximum number of coupons that you can use each day (previously discussed), to maximize your best coupons make a detailed shopping list of what it is that you are going to buy.

This will be a helpful list, once you have identified the items, it will be very easy for you to go into the store and pick those things up first.

Next we will focus on quantity purchasing.  If possible always buy the small quantity of items(i.e. no need to buy the family size of rice, grab the smaller bag and save more money).  The same principle applies to condiments as many times you will find that they are on sale more than the larger quantity sizes.

When purchasing multiple quantities of the same item, remember some stores will have a limit as to how many you coupons you can use that will double for the item.

Example:
Lowe's Food will allow you to purchase 5 items, however, only 4 of your coupons will double, the fifth coupon will be for face value only.

When purchasing Buy One Get One Free Items, Harris Teeter will only double, triple or super double 1 coupon only and that is on the item that you are purchasing.  Same rule applies when it is buy 2 get 3 free, you can use your coupons on the items you are purchasing, not on the free items.  On the other hand some stores will take both coupons (buyer beware).

At the end of your shopping experience make sure you get your receipt as well as any pre-printed (Catalina) coupons that your store may give you.  **The pre-printed (Catalina) coupons will not double, triple or super double.  Make sure you double check those Catalina coupons, they may be for a specific amount of your total purchase on your next visit.

If you have a coupon that is for over a $1.00 and it is not Super Double, save that coupon for Wal-Mart, Target and other stores.  **At my local Wal-Mart they would not allow me to use multiply coupons (4 bars of soap = 4 coupons, WRONG, I was only allowed to use 1 coupon.  Then I was told that I would have to get back in line over and over to purchase the rest of the soap** So hoping they will change this policy very soon!

Wal-Greens Drug store will allow you to "stack" coupons.  That means they have a coupon in their store advertisement and you have a manufacture's coupon, you can use both.

Need a break? Okay until next time....................

Happy Shopping!

Coupon Boot Camp: Lesson 3 Where To Go For Coupons

Now let the fun begin......It's time to get our coupons.

Previously we discussed that you could save an average of .50 per paper if you bought it at Dollar Tree.  I do realize that not all Dollar Tree stores carry the Sunday paper.  So what should you do? Go online and look for free printable coupons first.

The following sites offer free printable coupons:
www.couponmom.com
www.smartsource.com
(these are just a few, some of the links will give you additional sites)

Some weeks I order my coupons through the  following sites. Most times, I receive my clipped coupons in 3 to 4 days.
www.thecouponclippers.com

Coupons can also be found in the grocery store on the aisles and also in the frozen food section, there is normally a cardboard penguin that has blue coupons attached all over him!! He's so cute! Go directly to the manufacture's site, often they will have some "free printables" coupons.  March is national frozen food month, so keep your eye opened very WIDE for those EXTRA coupons.  Check the "Parade" in your Sunday paper, there is always a coupon in it, as well as the "ALL YOU" Magazine.

It's is very important that once you start couponing that you keep your book organized, make sure you pull your expired coupons at least twice a month.

I know you are on overload, so take another break and we will catch up soon!

Happy Shopping!

Coupon Boot Camp: Lesson 2 Understanding Coupons

It's 5am and the alarm is going off on my Blackberry....(Beep, beep, beep, beep)

Can I just share with you that the alarm was my email alert, letting me know that my favorite grocery store ad has hit my inbox....... Wait before I make the mad dash to the store, I need to figure out how the coupons work.

Locally  there are two major grocery stores that double coupons everyday with a limit of up to 20 coupons per customer.  They will double the face value of the coupon up to .99

Double Coupon Example:
(Let's say you want to buy some cake frosting, the frosting is on sale for $1.50, you have a coupon for .50 (your coupon will be doubled making it worth $1.00)

Cake Frosting $1.50-$1.00 (coupon) your total price for the frosting is .50

Here's another example a bag of rice is on sale for $1.19 you have a coupon for .55(that coupon doubled is worth 1.10) You will pay .09

There are plenty of items that you can get for free, for instance, today I received a Gatorade G2 for .00
The Gatorade was on sale for .99, I had a .50 coupon(doubled it would have been 1.00)
*please note that most grocery stores computers will not allow the coupon value to exceed the sales price, so instead of the coupon doubling for $1.00 and they would have owed me .01, the register adjusted the coupon and it entered as .99, no complaints it was still FREE

Now that was just double coupons, we haven't started our dialogue about Super Double or Triple Coupons......

Remember when we were younger and we wanted to know all of the cool words?  Ha! In the coupon world there is some lingo that you may want to know.

Just like our double coupons, some stores will triple the face value of a coupon up to .99 (some restrictions will apply and these will happen in cycles, not everyday like the double, you will need to watch for these)

The main grocery store in my area that triples coupons on a consistent basis is Harris Teeter

Triple Coupon Example:

Your coupon is for .75 the grocery store will double it making it worth a whopping 2.25
Nabisco 100 pk calorie is on sale for 2.50 with your .75 coupon (tripled to 2.25) your total price would be .25

Super Double Coupon Example:
Super double coupons have the same restrictions depending on the store, here is the major difference
A super double, is a coupon with a face value of up to 1.98 and the grocery store doubles it
Jimmy Dean Sausage is on sale for 2.99, you have a 1.00 coupon now let's double that coupon to make it worth 2.00 you will pay .99 for a roll of sausage.

Here's the difference between Super Double and Double. On Super Double coupons the face value of the coupon is over .99.  Remember double is up to .99 , Super Double are your coupons that are over $1.00 but they do not exceed $1.98

Take a break and get a sip of water, until next time!

Coupon Boot Camp: Lesson 1 Getting Started/Organizing

Now this will require some physical and mental strength.....Are you ready?

  • First you will need a three-ring (single/double binder) your preference
  • Baseball card holders (these can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Target for 4.98)
  • Divider Tabs   (sounds easy so far.......)
  • To create a simple book you may want to dedicate the left side of your book for refrigerated/cold foods/snacks and the right side for household item(toiletries, detergents, etc.)  (again, this is your design)
  • The final step is to purchase your newspapers or you can print free coupons online or order them for a fee ( I will provide websites for you to use to get your coupons, in the upcoming blogs)
Please note that if a holiday falls on a Monday,  there will not be any coupons in the Sunday Paper

    • Create a separate email account that can be used strictly for "couponing" This account is good as you can have the sales paper dropped directly into your inbox, otherwise, you will need to purchase the sales paper that comes out on Wednesdays for the weekly deals.

    • Sign up for a rewards card at all major stores (grocery, department, & book), keep these cards with you at all times.  You will start receiving extra perks (in-store credits, % off of next visits and more!)
Now rest up, the next couple of blogs is strength training, getting you ready to go shopping!

    Why I Started Using Coupons

I get asked all the time, how do you save so much money? My response it's easy, I use "coupons."

Imagine that you have just received a gift card for your favorite holiday and on it you have 100.00 to any store, in your mind, you have already picked out one or two things that you want to purchase at Store X, but Store Y is having a sale.

So you debate that if you go with Store Y you will save $12.00 which means that you have a little extra to spend somewhere else. (Did you know that you just virtually saved your $, now let's turn that virtual $ into real MONEY!)

Last year from Jan 1 to December 31, 2009 I saved over $1696.16 (coupons only) at my favorite grocery store, with the in-store specials I saved $3502.67, now you do the math. Again, this is just one store.

What would you do with all of that extra money? Now do you see why I am a firm believer in using coupons? I am a wife and mother of three growing children, it was nothing for me to spend $100-$115 a week for groceries before couponing. As of the present moment my grocery bill is less than $25 a week, that is with meats, detergents, cleaning supplies and snacks!!!

It's very simple and easy to do..........
